Even as they flaunt their copies of the Constitution, the Tea Partiers and their enablers in the I Got Mine Party defecate on the very spirit of the document.
I could fill this blog with countless examples of Republican hypocrisy, and I will, one day at a time. But the Screw You Party’s voter suppression efforts are among the most glaring — and disgusting.
They have passed laws in 20 states aimed at restricting voter rights. Their efforts will disproportionately reduce participation by key Democratic constituencies, such as African-Americans, Hispanics and low-income voters.
They claim that they are trying to eliminate voter fraud, but no one in their right mind believes them.
Voter fraud is minimal in this country and can be attacked without cooking up the very sort of new legislative intrusions that Republicans profess to hate.
Their efforts harken back to the days of Jim Crow, a shameful epoch that seems to stir in Republicans a perverse nostalgia.
